ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - Some Bob Montana Artwork!

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with cover art unknown, but my guess is Bill Vigoda)

The Popularity of Archie allowed them to make 25 cent Annuals and Special Editions for many of their books.

In 1955 they were still at 100 pages!

Another Archie plan gone wrong, underestimating a female.

Last reprinted in 2016 in both Betty & Veronica (Jumbo Comics) Double Digest #240 (March 2016) and Archie 1000 Page Comics Shindig (2016)

Shades of Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta from 1952-53!

Archie dreams of the future, where he’s STILL a bad driver!

As far as I can tell, never reprinted in the U.S., but was in the UK Version of Archie Annual #7 (1955) in B&W!

The idea of younger women finding older men attractive isn’t a new idea, as we see Veronica here very clearly demonstrate.

I highly doubt you’d see a clear vision of this in a modern Archie Comic!

Reprinted in Laugh Comics Digest #63 (March 1986)

Veronica with a 1950’s style bikini! Stylish, yet comparatively conservative, it was probably considered

a bit ‘wild’ for it’s time! It’s interesting that George Frese seems to be the one who is pushing the

hip fashion of the day - ten years before DeCarlo would make a name for himself doing it.

In reality, we’d see Harry Lucey even take this up before DeCarlo would join…

It looks like the only time this has been reprinted is in the UK Edition of Archie Annual #7

A perfect example of Samm Schwartz’s physical comedy and ability to tell a story without words.

Well… at least until the last panel!

It’s nice to see Bob Montana drawing in the actual books. His long time run on the newspaper strip is legendary, but

it’s always good to see him do some stories in the books (mainly the Annuals)

This is how the kids used to say, “Let’s Play Some Records!” Right?

What do I know? I wouldn’t be born for 8 more years!

A lot of cartoonish violence for comedic effect in Archie that only a nitwit would take

seriously. Here though we see the graphic aftermath of Archie getting two black eyes

from Veronica!

At 100 pages it’s mostly ALL story, but there are a few fun pages, as well

as an interesting AD for Archie Comics in general…

Another Bob Montana story, where Archie dreams of being a caged tiger!

Here Veronica plays psychologist…

… and then a doctor with the cure!
