ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - Some Bob Montana Artwork!

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with cover art unknown, but my guess is Bill Vigoda)

The Popularity of Archie allowed them to make 25 cent Annuals and Special Editions for many of their books.

In 1955 they were still at 100 pages!

Another Archie plan gone wrong, underestimating a female.

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Harry Lucey)

Last reprinted in 2016 in both Betty & Veronica (Jumbo Comics) Double Digest #240 (March 2016) and Archie 1000 Page Comics Shindig (2016)

Shades of Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta from 1952-53!

Archie dreams of the future, where he’s STILL a bad driver!

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by various)

As far as I can tell, never reprinted in the U.S., but was in the UK Version of Archie Annual #7 (1955) in B&W!

The idea of younger women finding older men attractive isn’t a new idea, as we see Veronica here very clearly demonstrate.

I highly doubt you’d see a clear vision of this in a modern Archie Comic!

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Unknown)

Reprinted in Laugh Comics Digest #63 (March 1986)

Veronica with a 1950’s style bikini! Stylish, yet comparatively conservative, it was probably considered

a bit ‘wild’ for it’s time! It’s interesting that George Frese seems to be the one who is pushing the

hip fashion of the day - ten years before DeCarlo would make a name for himself doing it.

In reality, we’d see Harry Lucey even take this up before DeCarlo would join…

It looks like the only time this has been reprinted is in the UK Edition of Archie Annual #7

A perfect example of Samm Schwartz’s physical comedy and ability to tell a story without words.

Well… at least until the last panel!

It’s nice to see Bob Montana drawing in the actual books. His long time run on the newspaper strip is legendary, but

it’s always good to see him do some stories in the books (mainly the Annuals)

This is how the kids used to say, “Let’s Play Some Records!” Right?

What do I know? I wouldn’t be born for 8 more years!

A lot of cartoonish violence for comedic effect in Archie that only a nitwit would take

seriously. Here though we see the graphic aftermath of Archie getting two black eyes

from Veronica!

At 100 pages it’s mostly ALL story, but there are a few fun pages, as well

as an interesting AD for Archie Comics in general…

(ARCHIE’s GIRLS BETTY & VERONICA ANNUAL #3 - cover-dated 1953, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by various)

Another Bob Montana story, where Archie dreams of being a caged tiger!

Here Veronica plays psychologist…

… and then a doctor with the cure!

ARCHIE COMICS #73 - Play As You Go!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with cover art unknown, but my guess is Bill Vigoda)

The perfect Archie story (that doesn’t involve Betty & Veronica) - Reggie brags, Archie and Jughead plan against him, Reggie overhears and tries to sabotage them, Archie and Jughead screw up and get sabotaged, and…. Well here’s the whole story. It’s ONE of my favorites of this issue and a CLASSIC. I can’t believe it’s never been reprinted!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Bill Vigoda)

As far as I know, this has only been reprinted in the U.K. (Archie #1 - 1955 in Black & White)

Archie should know better than to take advice from Reggie…

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Bill Vigoda)

As far as I know, this has only been reprinted in the U.K. (Archie #1 - 1955 in Black & White)

…because Veronica is always going to win in the end!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Bill Vigoda)

As far as I know, this has only been reprinted in the U.K. (Archie #1 - 1955 in Black & White)

Here's a two page story that makes me laugh out loud! Why has THIS never been reprinted? Another CLASSIC!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Red Holmdale?)

As far as I know, this has only been reprinted in the U.K. (Archie #1 - 1955 in Black & White)

Archie Fan Club advertisement

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Unknown)

Sure it's out of context - sort of - but still not something you'd probably read in today's Archie Comics!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by George Frese)

EYES, Archie!

(Not exactly being Undercover here, are they?)

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by George Frese)

Sometimes that Archie...

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by George Frese)

In 1955 a comment like this in Archie Comics

was perfectly acceptable!

(ARCHIE COMICS #73 - cover-dated March/April 1955, on newsstands January 12th, 1955, with art by Samm Schwartz)

Betty in a Bikini always sounds like a good idea,

but... in the middle of winter??

    LAUGH COMICS #67

A Rare Issue that's never been reprinted!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with cover art unknown, but my guess is Bill Vigoda)

There's a point at the beginning of an Archie story, where you KNOW things are just not going to end up right! And here's one with someone you don't see a lot of... Veronica's Mom!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by George Frese)

This story, as far as I can gather, has never been reprinted!

And they play it up at a different angle as well. SHE wants to drive!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by George Frese)

This story, as far as I can gather, has never been reprinted!

Jughead Open Eyes Alert! Keep in mind that generally, Jughead with his eyes open, usually denotes him seeing something and being astounded/scared/surprised, etc.

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by unknown)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted...

...there are exceptions though...

Twice in the same book,

and twice in the same story!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by....unknown)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted

I don't spend much time on Debby stories in the book, but this one I found amusing, at least in the premise.

Debby's dad smokes' cigars, making Debby and her Mom uncomfortable. So Debbie buys him an 'exploding cigar' in hopes that it'll make him quit!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by Bill Woggon)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted!

Of course her Dad ends up giving one to a client he has over for dinner!

(I say the payoff here could've been funnier...)

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by Bill Woggon)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted!

Same with Katy Keene... I don't usually spend much time on it, but... I like how they promote Archie Comics in this one!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by Bill Woggon)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted!

Even before the Japanese took over the American Car Market, Reggie was buying Foreign Made cars! Hey, I thought this was an All-American Comic!*

*It's a gag. Let's leave politics out of this!

(Laugh Comics #67  cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by Joe Edwards)

Another that I don't think has ever been reprinted! What'd they throw these stories out?

And my favorite of the book - which I don't believe has ever been reprinted - which is a shame as I think it is CLASSIC Archie:

(Laugh Comics #67 cover-dated February 1955, on newsstands December 15th, 1954, with art by Samm Schwartz)

Never reprinted? That's a shame!
